SHADE
THE SHOW THAT CELEBRATES BLACK/INDIGENOUS/ PEOPLE OF COLOUR, WOMEN
AND THE LGBTQ2S+ COMMUNITY

ABOUT
SHADE began January 2017 after founder and comedian Anasimone felt that there was a need for diversity within the arts. Due to the lack of diversity and representation in the current comedy scene, it has inherently been filled with misogynistic, racist or homophobic comedians and/or jokes.
After being tired of feeling unwelcome, she decided to create a space that represents the unseen and unheard, thus SHADE was born. SHADE has become a well anticipated monthly comedy show that represents and celebrates comedians of colour, comedians from the LGBTQ+ community, and comedians who identify as women. Although this platform is for those listed above, SHADE is an inclusive space and all are welcome.
What she expected to be a large empty room with a few friends and family, turned out to be a standing room with a waiting list. The show continued to sell out every month. As the show gained popularity, it was asked to go on tour to various universities across Ontario. The show has also received lots of press, and continues to, from the likes of Vice, NowMagazine, Fashion Magazine, CBC, and more!

SHADE's success led Anasimone to take the show on a Varisty tour across Ontario universities such as, Ryerson, U of T, and more! The show went on to sell out the Royal on it's one year anniversary, and is now venturing on to becoming a weekend long festival!
